Great Circle Imperial Distance Calculator
This facilty will calculate the distance between any two points on the globe. This is useful for working out the distance from a transmitter to the point of reception via the Great Circle route. The distance shown is calculated in miles and is accurate to about a tenth of a mile. Working in metric? Please use the metric calculator.
In the example shown the distance from London (Trafalgar Square) to Perth, Australia is 8,977.4 miles.
Information
- The Great Circle path is the shortest distance between two locations on earth. Shortest paths are rarely straight lines on mercator projected maps.
- The number of segments in the connecting line is controlled by the zoom value.
- Try dragging the markers or type in the locations you want above in the boxes provided:
- "Rightclick" to show the map control buttons when you mouse pointer is over the map. If you move outside the map boundary the control buttons will auto-hide.
- The map will auto-zoom when the markers are moved to new locations.
- Use the map controls to switch to a "Satellite View".
